The Challenge
Girls and women are powerful agents of change who deliver for themselves, their families and their communities, especially when their health and rights are prioritized. Since 2010, GHS has supported Women Deliver, a leading global advocacy organization, to spark political and financial investments in girls and women everywhere. For Women Deliver’s fourth global conference – the world’s largest gathering focused on girls’ and women’s health, rights and wellbeing – GHS was asked to design an innovative virtual experience to engage advocates, policymakers and journalists who couldn’t attend in person but belonged in the conversation.
The Approach
GHS worked with partners to conceptualize and launch Women Deliver Live (WDLive), a pop-up broadcast station featuring 90+ video segments and 40+ hours of programming that captured the conference’s best speakers and stories for a virtual audience. GHS developed a diverse program of original online content, including roving reporters and “tough talks” on challenging issues. In addition to key conference sessions, WDLive broadcast 50+ original interviews, debates and conversations produced exclusively for the virtual audience. GHS also helped build the audience for WDLive through targeted partner outreach, social media, and exclusive opportunities for virtual registrants.
The Impact
WDLive shared the power of investing in girls and women with an audience of influencers and advocates around the world. Programming was viewed 132,000+ times in 146 countries and was syndicated on major television and radio networks including Al Jazeera (international), TRT (Turkey) and Radio 702 (South Africa). Prominent speakers including Helen Clark, Jim Kim, Melinda Gates, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Annie Lennox and Chamki participated, and the virtual conference inspired 38 global satellite events – from Beirut to Bangkok – where participants screened and discussed the segments that inspired them.
