Alex Menezes founded the GHS Latin American hub in Brazil in 2012. He leads GHS’s office in Rio de Janeiro. Alex has over 25 years of experience working with policymakers, scientists and philanthropic institutions on public health innovation and access programs. At GHS, he helped identify opportunities, establish and manage a partnership between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Brazilian Ministry of Health, enabling joint investment in a portfolio of innovative projects. Prior to joining GHS, he worked at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative in New York, where he developed the organization’s Brazil program, he also oversaw IAVI’s civil society and community engagement efforts for R&D programs in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, China, and India. For the past five years, has led a team that advises PAHO leadership at their HQ in Washington DC on communication strategies to address the COVID-19 pandemic and other priority health issues, inform and manage the Bill & Melinda Gates investments and partnerships in Brazil and the approval of a new protocol for malaria diagnosis and treatment.
