Sushma is the Vice President at GHS’ India offices. Prior to joining GHS, she worked with UN Women both in New York and India. Her last assignment with UN Women was as the Deputy Regional Program Director in South Asia Regional Office. This had under its mandate Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. She also worked with UNICEF in New York and Florence (Italy) on HIV and other communicable diseases. She has worked as the Gender Coordinator with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) both in India and New York. At IAVI, her work included developing a framework (implemented in India, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa) on gender-specific issues related to AIDS vaccine trials. She brings extensive knowledge in advancing the issues of gender equality in global, regional and national arenas; strategic planning; engaging with policymakers; organizational development; program design and implementation; advocacy and communications.
Sushma has a Master’s in English Literature from Brown University (USA) and the University of Allahabad (India).
