John leads GHS’ work on access to medicines and polio and joined the organization in 2012. He is the head of GHS’s European office based in London. With a background in political science, John started his career in development working in South Africa for the grassroots HIV/AIDS movement, the Treatment Action Campaign, which successfully won a national antiretroviral rollout for people living with HIV, brought generics into the country and defeated AIDS denialism.

From South Africa, he went on to work between British Parliamentarians and civil society for Children England before moving to India for three years, coalition building with Indian Parliamentarians, bureaucrats and civil society. John worked for the Centre for Legislative Research and Advocacy mainly on HIV and AIDS, and MDR-TB, before joining Save the Children India, where he focused on maternal, newborn and child health. John then transferred to Save the Children International, in New York, where he led on the development and implementation of global flagship health and humanitarian issues. John also led on the NCD section of Save the Children’s work, moderating and speaking on ‘health system strengthening’ and ‘movement building’ at the Global Conference on NCDs in Oakland.
