Bongiwe Mlangeni is the Vice President for Global Health Strategies and oversees the East and Southern Africa offices.
She has over 20 years of experience in the media and communications field. Prior to joining GHS, she was the founding executive director of the Social Justice Initiative and helped to mobilise resources for over 100 civil society organisations in South Africa. She has also led strategic communications and advocacy programs at Corruption Watch and the Graҫa Machel Trust. Her journey in public health communication began at the World Health Organisation, Geneva, in 2005, preceded by a 10-year career in journalism.
Bongiwe has a Master of Management degree with a focus on public policy from the Wits School of Governance and has completed postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Wits Business School (WBS). She serves on the board of the Learning Trust and advisory board of the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI). She is also a part-time lecturer at the Wits Business School (WBS), a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative (ALI) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).
