Amitava Banerjee is a Senior Manager on the Family Planning project Team. Making a difference in people's lives was a childhood aspiration for Amitava, which prompted him to transition to public health after a 16-year career in the corporate sector, where he led Marketing, Brand Development and Business Communication functions across domains and geographies. His last stint in the corporate world included heading Marketing and Communications across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa for the Singapore-based Chandler Corporation's education business, prior to joining CARE India as the Communications Specialist for the Bihar Technical Support Program in February 2014.
For the last 3 years, Amitava has been assisting the Govt. of Bihar meet the Manav Vikas Mission goals, improve key RMNCHN indicators, and achieve rapid and sustainable change in health and nutrition outcomes statewide, by amplifying the effectiveness of health and nutrition interventions through his communication initiatives. He has designed and implemented successful campaigns like the Bihar Swasthya Seva Rattan Puraskar, Bal Kuposhan Mukt Bihar and Swasthya Upkendra Sammelan Diwas and helped develop two major state emergency health campaigns on Swine Flu Awareness, and on Acute Encephalitis and Japanese Encephalitis Awareness.
Amitava's media campaigns on Family Planning, KalaAzar Elimination and Community Health Worker Motivation won him both the Asia Pacific and the South Asia 2015 Sabre Gold Trophies and his campaign on Tobacco-Free Bihar won the Global Sabre PR Award for 2015, beating over 5000 entries from across the world. Amitava was publicly felicitated by the Govt. of Bihar last year in recognition of his contributions towards public health awareness and education in the state, and for highlighting the state's positive progress in healthcare on domestic and international forums. Apart from winning a Global PR Award, Amitava's work has also earned him national awards from the Ministry of Tourism, GoI, The Advertising Council of India and the Franchising Association of India.
Amitava has been repeatedly called upon by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to assist with information dissemination and other overarching communication projects, the very recent being a coffee table book on KalaAzar Elimination for the Prime Minister's Office.
